Gin mint juleps
A variation on the American classic cocktail, this gin-based concoction is fresh and fizzy.

Ingredients
Gin mint juleps
- leaves from 1 bunch of mint,
- washed and chopped, plus extra, to serve
- 2 tablespoon caster sugar
- 2 tablespoon lime juice
- crushed ice, to serve
- 1 1/4 cup (300ml) gin
- chilled ginger beer or tonic water (optional)
Method
Gin mint juleps

1Place mint, sugar and lime juice in a sturdy jug. Roughly crush together using end of a rolling pin or wooden spoon.

2Half-fill 6 tall glasses with crushed ice and add 50ml gin to each. Stir in mint mixture and add ginger beer, if using. Decorate with extra mint and serve.
Notes
Mint is easy to grow at home and is available from herb section of your local nursery. Choose a spot close to a path or doorway where you'll brush against the leaves and release the aroma.
