How to make a spider float

  • You will need a soft drink of your choice plus a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Fill a glass three quarters full with soft drink (cola and raspberry are traditional flavours), add ice cream and a straw. Enjoy!

Make it from scratch

If you want to get a little bit more creative in the kitchen, why not try making your own lime fizzy?
You will need:
8limes
1 cupcaster sugar
1 cupwater
2 dropsnatural green food colouring (optional)
chilled soda water
vanilla ice cream to serve
1Remove zest of limes using a vegetable peeler, leaving white pith behind. Squeeze limes to get 3/4 cup of juice. Add zest and juice to saucepan with sugar and water.
2Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat, then set aside for 30 minutes to cool and infuse.
3Strain cordial into a jug to remove zest. Add food colouring and stir. Fill glasses 2/3 of the way up with soda water. Add cordial to taste and a scoop of ice cream.
4Serve with a straw and a long spoon.
