Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 60 gram cold butter, cubed
- 半杯牛奶(大约)
- 2 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into quarters
- pouring cream to serve
Sauce
- 2 cup water
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 50 gram butter, cubed
- 2 tablespoon golden syrup
Method
-
1Preheat the oven to 180°C. Butter the base and sides of a 20cm x 24cm baking dish (or similar), or spray it with oil.
-
2Place the flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon and butter in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a few times until the butter is roughly chopped into the flour (alternatively, you can rub the butter in by hand).
-
3Transfer the flour mixture to a large bowl. Make a well. Using a knife, mix in enough milk to make a soft dough.
-
4Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Using floured hands, roll each piece of dough into a ball and flatten each ball in the palm of your hand to about 8cm in diameter. Place an apple quarter in the centre of the dough. Fold in the edges and seal to completely enclose the apple.
-
5Place the dumplings, seam side down, in the prepared baking pan, leaving room for them to spread.
-
6To make the sauce, place all the ingredients in a pan. Bring the sauce to a boil. Pour the sauce over the dumplings. Bake the apple dumplings in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the dumplings are golden and the sauce has thickened. Serve warm with a jug of pouring cream.
Notes
- You can also cook these dumplings on the stovetop. Use a large, wide pan with a tight-fitting lid. Place the dumplings into the simmering sauce and cook, covered, for 20 minutes.
