Chocolate chip scones with chocolate fudge sauce
- 2 1/3 cup self-raising flour
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 80 gram cold butter, chopped
- 1 cup dark chocolate bits
- 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 1/4 cup milk, plus 1 tablespoon extra, to brush
- 200 gram dark cooking chocolate, chopped
- 2/3 cup cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- vanilla ice-cream, to serve
Method
Chocolate chip scones with chocolate fudge sauce

1Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced. Grease a baking tray.

2Sift flour and cocoa powder into a large bowl. Using fingertips, rub in butter to make fine crumbs. Stir in chocolate bits and half the sugar. Add milk. Using a round- bladed knife, mix ingredients. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently.

3Press dough into a 2cm-thick round. Using a 6cm pastry cutter, cut dough into 14 rounds. Place rounds, side by side. on prepared tray. Brush tops with extra milk.

4Bake for 15-20 minutes or until scones are golden and sound hollow when tapped. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

5Combine chocolate, cream, remaining sugar and vanilla in a small saucepan over moderately low heat. Cook and stir until chocolate has melted and mixture is well combined. Serve scones with ice-cream and sauce.
Notes
This fudge sauce will thicken on standing.
