Classic macaroni cheese
- 375 gram macaroni pasta
- 60 gram butter
- 1/4 cup (35g) plain flour
- 3 cup (750ml) hot milk
- 1 1/2 cup (180g) coarsely grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup (70g) stale coarse white breadcrumbs
Method
Classic macaroni cheese

1Preheat oven to 180°C. Oil a 1.5-litre ovenproof dish.

2Cook pasta in large saucepan of salted boiling water until tender, then drain.

3Meanwhile, melt butter in a large saucepan. Add flour and stir over heat for about 2 minutes or until mixture bubbles and thickens. Gradually stir in milk. Continue stirring until sauce boils and thickens. Stir in 1 cup of the cheese.

4Stir pasta into hot sauce mixture; spoon into ovenproof dish. Sprinkle with combined breadcrumbs and remaining cheese. Bake, uncovered, about 25 minutes or until browned lightly.
