Ingredients

Savoury slice
  • 2 cup self-raising flour
  • 125 gram butter, chopped
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoon iced water
  • flaked salt, ground pepper, to taste
Filling
  • 150 gram ham, chopped
  • 1 cup grated tasty cheese
  • 1 cup baby spinach leaves
  • 1/2 cup chopped sun-dried tomatoes
  • 6 onions, chopped
  • 2 eggs, beaten, plus extra egg, for brushing
  • 1/4 cup cream

Method

    Preheat oven to hot, 200°C. Lightly grease a 15 x 25cm oval ovenproof dish.

    Sift flour into a bowl. Rub in butter using fingertips. Add yolk and a little water if required. Form into a pliable dough. Wrap plastic wrap; rest, chilled, 20 minutes.

    On a lightly floured surface, roll two-thirds pastry out to fit prepared dish.

    To make the filling, in a bowl, combine all ingredients. Season to taste. Pour over pastry base.

    Roll out remaining pastry cover filling; score top. Brush with extra egg; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake 25-30 minutes.

Notes

Use a 16 x 26cm slab pan, if preferred.
