Spiced star biscuits
These beautiful star-shaped biscuits are perfect for Christmas gifts or children's parties. Golden, crumbly and spiced to perfection, they are beautiful topped with a smooth icing and enjoyed with a pot of tea.

Ingredients
Spiced star biscuits
- 1/4 cup (90g) treacle
- 1/2 cup (110g) firmly packed brown sugar
- 125 gram butter, at room temperature
- 1 egg
- 2 cup (300g) plain flour
- 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup (160g) icing sugar mixture
Method

1Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). Line two baking trays with baking paper.

2Using an electric mixer, beat treacle, brown sugar, butter and egg until pale and creamy. Combine flour, bicarbonate of soda and spices; add to treacle mixture. Stir to combine.

3Turn out dough onto slightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in fridge 30 minutes.

5Place small and large stars on prepared trays. Continue with remaining portion of dough. Bake small stars 6 minutes. Bake large stars 9-10 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from oven. Cool completely on trays, to allow biscuits to firm.

6Combine icing sugar and 1-2 tablespoon water to make a smooth icing. Top biscuits with icing.
Notes
This recipe should yield 22 large stars and 22 small stars.
