Steak sandwich
Tasty and hearty steak sandwich layered with caramelised onions, grilled tomatoes and barbecue sauce makes the perfect meal for a Saturday night in or during barbecue season.

Ingredients
Steak sandwich
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 minute steaks, trimmed
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, sliced thickly
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, plus extra, to serve
- 8 thick slices bread, lightly toasted
- mixed salad leaves, to serve
Method
Steak sandwich

1Heat oil in a large frying pan on high. Cook steaks for 1-2 minutes each side, until cooked to taste. Transfer to a plate, cover with foil and keep warm.

2Sauté onion in same pan for 4-5 minutes, until caramelised. Push to one side of pan. Add tomato slices, season to taste. Cook for 2-3 minutes each side, until tender.

3Spread barbecue sauce over 4 pieces of toast. Top each with a handful of mixed leaves, a steak, sliced tomato and onion. Toot with remaining toast slices. Serve with extra sauce.
Notes
For a heartier meal add sliced beetroot, crispy bacon and a fried egg to the sandwich, and serve with oven fries and extra sauce.
