Ingredients
Equipment
- 30 centimetre x 45cm cake board
- 4 disposable plastic piping bags
Cake
- 2 x 450g packets double unfilled sponge slabs
- 2 x 453g tubs vanilla frosting
- blue, red, green and yellow food colouring
Decorations
- 50 gram white chocolate melts
- 8 mini sponge rolls
- 1 ice-cream wafer
- 65 m&m’s
- 4 ice-cream cones, ends trimmed
- 2 centimetre piece black licorice strap
- green, red, blue, yellow and orange coloured sprinkles
Method
-
1Secure 2 sponge slabs, long sides together, on the cake board with a little frosting. Spread top with a little frosting. Top with remaining sponge slabs. Spread top and sides of cake with a quarter of the frosting.
-
2Divide remaining frosting into 4 small bowls. Tint each bowl a different colour.
-
3Melt chocolate. Attach two mini sponge rolls together with a little of the melted chocolate. Trim one end to shape into a paint tube. Repeat with remaining sponge rolls. Spread each tube with some of the different coloured frosting.
-
4Cut wafer into 4 rectangles. Spread wafers with remaining chocolate. Allow to set.
-
5Place remaining coloured frosting into piping bags. Snip the end off the piping bags. Pipe a heart shape onto each wafer. Position wafers onto ‘paint tubes’.
-
6Using picture as a guide, position M&M’s, ‘paint tubes’ and ice-cream cones on cake.
-
7Write a party message onto cake with frosting. Cut licorice strap into a round to fit the opening of one ice-cream cone. Secure with a little chocolate to make lid. Cut a larger hole at end of piping bags. Pipe frosting coming out of remaining ice-cream cones.
-
8Decorate cake board with sprinkles.
