Mediterranean pizzas (lahmajoun)
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 500 gram beef mince
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 400 gram can diced tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup toasted pine nuts
  • 1/2 cup mint, chopped, plus extra leaves, to serve
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • plain flour, for dusting
  • 4 ready-made pizza bases
  • greek yoghurt, to serve

Method

Mediterranean pizzas (lahmajoun)

    Heat oil in a large frying pan on medium. Saute onion 4-5 minutes.

    Increase heat to high. Add mince and cook 6-8 minutes, until well browned, breaking up lumps as it cooks. Stir in tomato paste, then add tomatoes. Simmer 4-5 minutes, until thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in pine nuts, mint, vinegar, honey and spices.

    Preheat oven to hot, 200°C. Lightly dust four large oven trays with flour.

    Place one pizza base on each tray. Spread evenly with beef mixture. Bake 10-15 minutes, until dough is crisp and golden. Serve with a dollop of yoghurt and mint leaves.
